“We all miss Charlie so much…”The Rolling Stones returned to the stage this evening, and shared a poignant tribute to drummer Charlie Watts.
The drummer worked with the band since those initial shows in 1962, helping to power them to international success.
Never missing a show in 60 years, Charlie Watts was forced to pull out of their North American tour due to health issues – sadly, he died a few days later.
The Rolling Stones promised to continue, and played a tiny warm up show ahead of the resumption of their No Filter tour.
Footage has gone on their social channels, and it features a clearly emotional Mick Jagger saluting his friend and band mate.
“This is it, this is the try out,” he told the crowd. “I must say, though, at this point it’s bit of a poignant night for us, as it’s the first night of the first tour that we’ve done in 59 years without our lovely Charlie Watts.”
“We all miss Charlie so much. We miss him as a band, we miss him as a friend – on and off the stage.”
He said: “We’d like to dedicate the show to Charlie.”
Taking a drink, Mick Jagger – with a clear lump in his throat – then joked: “What will I do now? I’m all emotional.”
Farewell, Charlie.
